IN SOLIDARITY WITH MY FELLOW MCGILL ALUM

Please note: MP3s are only kept online for a short time, and if this entry is from more than a couple of weeks ago, the music probably won't be available to download any more.
Cassie - "Me & U (siik remix)". This remix's crisscross of synths are like so many shafts of stained glass light, Cassie pussyfooting from one illuminated square to another. She boasts and she offers and she promises and she moves so that certain parts of her catch the light in certain ways; and it's like the song's been remade out of scraps of desire, patches of hope, everything sewn into a single shimmering scene. Vincent Gallo - "I Wrote This Song For The Girl Paris Hilton". I don't know who Paris Hilton was when Vincent Gallo recorded this song in 2001. Was she really still a girl, then? Was she already the faint-spirited, banal creature she is today? Was Gallo writing a song for a previous Paris, The Girl Paris, some distant memory? I do not know. But let us conceive of this song as a kindness, as a gift. Whether retroactively or no, Vincent Gallo imagines a life for Paris that is different than the one she chose. He paints this life in guitar, piano, saxophone, vintage organs. He measures it in tom and bass drum. He imagines a patient life, a lush one; he imagines a life of will and accident; he imagines splendour, crocus, thrush. A bell she could have rung. A song she could have sung. A dream she could have had, soft. [buy When] --- Many belated but sincere congratulations to Simon and Liz at Spoilt Victorian Child. It is good to see kind people made happy. Yeah, Gallo is a bit weird. Here is a film he did with the same Miss Hilton spinning around on a lazy susan, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qca0JaXbAd4 . She appears about two-thirds of the way through. BTW, it's NSFW, unless a lady's bum and crotch shots are okay where you work. Posted by David at July 5, 2007 8:32 PMHi Sean, Simon this is really hot. like, outrageous. besides some obvious harmonic errors, ratatat remixed with cassie? whaaaat? siik IS sick! Posted by eden at July 6, 2007 1:58 PMEh, I'd beg to differ. I've heard better remixes by siik, particularly the mix of Outkast & Slick Rick's "Da Art Of Storytelling" with Next's "Too Close"...but I suppose it takes a lot for a mash-up to impress me at this point. I've also heard a few better remixes of Cassie...if I remember, I'll post one when I get home. Most likely, I won't remember. ::shrug:: On that note, here's a really minimal mix of Cassie's other single that Samuel remixed. SO GOOD. http://www.skillstopaythebills.com/remixes/longwaytogosamuel.mp3 Posted by JJS III at July 6, 2007 3:51 PMPost a comment |
